These Terms apply to purchases made from Alexander Miles trading as alexandermiles.art (“Alexander Miles”, “we”, “us” or “our”), whether through alexandermiles.art or directly with us.
Our aim is simple: buying art should feel exciting rather than risky. We want to make it as easy as possible for you to see, live with and decide whether a work is right for you.
Nothing in these Terms affects your statutory consumer rights.
Alexander Miles is an independent art dealer based in the United Kingdom.

If you have a question about an artwork, delivery, returns or payment before buying, please get in touch.
We make every reasonable effort to describe and photograph artworks accurately, including their dimensions, medium, framing and condition where relevant.
Original artworks are, by their nature, unique objects and may contain surface texture, visible brushwork and other characteristics arising from the artist’s materials and working methods.
Colours may also appear slightly different between screens.
If you would like additional photographs, video, measurements or a virtual mock-up before purchasing, just ask.
Where a work is a limited edition, its edition details will be stated on the relevant artwork page.
Prices shown on the website are the prices payable for the artwork unless an obvious pricing error has occurred.
An order placed through the website is subject to our acceptance.
We may contact you if, for example, an artwork has already sold, a pricing error has occurred or we need further information before dispatch.
For higher-value orders, we may reasonably request proof of identity, billing address or delivery address as part of our fraud-prevention and security procedures.
4.1 UK and European addresses
Complimentary standard delivery is available to UK and European addresses unless otherwise stated on the individual artwork page.
For deliveries outside the UK, any import VAT, customs duties, clearance fees or other local charges imposed by the destination country are the responsibility of the recipient.
These charges are not controlled by Alexander Miles and are not included in the artwork price unless we expressly agree otherwise in writing.
4.2 Other international addresses
For destinations outside the UK and Europe, delivery is charged separately unless the individual artwork page expressly states that complimentary worldwide delivery is included.
We will obtain an appropriate shipping quotation and agree the cost with you before dispatch.
4.3 Rolled canvases
Where an artwork page states that complimentary worldwide shipping is included for a rolled canvas, no outward shipping charge will be made.
Local import taxes, duties and clearance fees may still apply and remain the recipient’s responsibility.
4.4 Packaging and transit
Artwork is carefully packed for its journey and sent using an appropriate tracked and/or insured service.
We will normally provide tracking details where available.
Unless another timeframe has been agreed with you, goods will be delivered within the period required by applicable consumer law.
Please contact us promptly if an artwork arrives damaged and retain all packaging while we arrange the appropriate next steps.
If you are a consumer purchasing an artwork at a distance — for example through our website, by email or by telephone — you will normally have a legal right to cancel the contract without giving a reason.
Your cancellation period expires 14 days after the day on which you, or a person nominated by you, receives the artwork.
To exercise this right, email alex@alexandermiles.art within that period and clearly tell us that you wish to cancel.
You do not need to give a reason.
After telling us that you wish to cancel, you must send the artwork back without undue delay and in any event within 14 days of notifying us of the cancellation.
We do not charge a restocking fee.
For an ordinary change-of-mind cancellation, however, you are responsible for the direct cost of returning the artwork safely to us, where we have told you of this responsibility before purchase.
The work must be appropriately packaged and returned using a suitable insured service.
Some artworks cannot reasonably or safely be returned using an ordinary parcel service because of their size, value, framing or fragility.
Where specialist return carriage is required, the cost will be the direct cost quoted by an appropriate insured art courier, based on factors including the artwork’s size, value, collection location and destination.
We are always happy to obtain and arrange this quotation for you.
If we arrange the return carrier on your behalf for a change-of-mind return, the direct cost of that collection or carriage will be payable by you and agreed beforehand.
If you arrange your own carrier, you are responsible for ensuring that the artwork is adequately packaged, insured and safely returned.
If you validly cancel an eligible distance purchase, we will refund the amount you paid for the artwork.
Where you paid separately for outward delivery, we will also refund the amount legally required for standard delivery.
We do not have to refund any additional amount paid for an enhanced or expedited delivery method beyond the cost of our least expensive standard option.
We may reduce a refund where the value of the artwork has been diminished as a result of handling beyond what would reasonably be necessary to inspect it.
We will issue the refund without undue delay and normally using the same payment method you originally used.
Where you are responsible for returning the artwork, we may wait until we have received it back or you have supplied evidence that it has been sent, whichever occurs first, subject to applicable law.
The statutory cancellation right may not apply to goods made to your specification or clearly personalised for you.
This may include certain bespoke commissions or alterations commissioned specifically at your request.
We will make it clear before accepting an order where we believe this exception applies.
Nothing in this section removes your rights if an artwork is faulty, damaged, misdescribed or otherwise does not conform to the contract.
Your statutory consumer rights are unaffected by these Terms.
Goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
If an artwork arrives damaged, is faulty or is materially different from its description, please contact us as soon as reasonably possible.
Where we are legally responsible for the problem, we will not require you to bear the reasonable cost of returning the work to us.
Please do not dispose of packaging or arrange repairs yourself before speaking to us.
We may offer prospective collectors the opportunity to see or temporarily live with artworks before deciding whether to purchase them.
Depending on your location, this might include:
Any physical trial is subject to individual agreement beforehand.
Unless we have expressly agreed that a purchase has already taken place, supplying an artwork to you purely on approval does not oblige you to buy it.
While an artwork is in your possession on approval, we ask that you take reasonable care of it and do not alter, reframe, clean or otherwise modify it.
The artwork remains our property unless and until a sale is completed.
If you decide not to buy, we will agree arrangements for its return or collection.
If you need a little time to make arrangements, we may agree to reserve an artwork for you against a small deposit.
The amount, reservation period and cancellation arrangements will be agreed clearly with you before payment.
We will not impose an arbitrary cancellation penalty or retain more of a consumer’s payment than we are lawfully entitled to retain.
Where statutory distance-selling cancellation rights apply, those rights take precedence over any reservation or deposit arrangement.
Bespoke commissions may have different deposit arrangements reflecting work already undertaken or costs reasonably incurred. These will be explained before the commission is confirmed.
At our discretion, we may allow the price of an artwork to be paid by agreed interest-free instalments.
A typical arrangement might divide the purchase price into three payments over approximately three months.
Where we offer our own instalment arrangement:
Unless we agree otherwise, you may take delivery of the artwork once the first agreed payment has been made.
Ownership of the artwork remains with Alexander Miles until the purchase price has been paid in full.
You nevertheless have a responsibility to take reasonable care of the artwork after delivery.
Scheduled card payments must be processed through an appropriate secure payment provider. Alexander Miles does not retain customers’ full payment-card details.
If you anticipate difficulty making a scheduled payment, please contact us. Our first preference will always be to find a sensible solution.
Statutory cancellation and consumer rights continue to apply where applicable.
Where Klarna or another third-party payment option is available through the website, that facility is provided subject to the provider’s own eligibility requirements, approval process and terms.
Any credit agreement offered by a third-party provider is between you and that provider.
Availability of a third-party payment option does not alter the cash price we charge for the artwork.
Please read the provider’s terms before using the service.
Purchasing an artwork transfers ownership of the physical artwork to you once the purchase price has been paid in full.
Unless expressly agreed otherwise, purchasing the physical artwork does not transfer copyright or other intellectual-property rights in the image.
Copyright normally remains with the artist or other relevant rights holder.
You may of course display and enjoy the physical artwork you have bought.
Occasionally delivery or fulfilment may be delayed by circumstances beyond our reasonable control.
If something significant happens, we will contact you, explain the position and take reasonable steps to minimise disruption.
Nothing in this section limits rights that the law does not allow us to limit.
We use personal information in connection with orders, delivery, payment, fraud prevention and customer service.
Please see our Privacy Policy for further information about how personal information is handled.
The Terms that apply to your purchase are those in force when the contract is made.
We may update these Terms for future purchases when our services, payment methods or applicable law change.
These Terms are governed by the applicable laws of the United Kingdom.
If you are a consumer living outside the UK, you may also benefit from mandatory consumer protections provided by the law of the country in which you live where those protections apply.
Art isn’t supposed to require a law degree.
If anything here is unclear—or you simply want to know what happens if a painting arrives and doesn’t work in your room—please contact:
We’d much rather answer the question before you buy.
