The Chromatic Shift: Jon's palette is defined by a restless transition from the cold, near-black indigos of the river to the fiery warmth of the south bank’s architecture. This thermal contrast is concentrated in the centre of the canvas, where the edifice of the city bleed into the water. Standing in front of 'Beyond Blackfriars' these smouldering highlights seem to tangibly project out from the cooler depths of their surroundings.

The Material Record: Jon’s palette knife work is evident in the vertical reflections on the water’s surface. These are not soft washes; they're tactile slashes of cream and gold that sit proud of the canvas. This physical build-up of material imbues the water with a dynamic energy that changes as you move across the room and the ambient light catches the edges of the paint.

Spatial Logic: The use of Blackfriars Bridge and a framing device creates a powerful sense of receding perspective. This structure frames the distant City of London, providing a sense of scale and distance that effectively 'opens up' a flat wall. It creates a visual window into a city’s restless heart, grounded by the imposing weight of some of the South Bank’s most iconic landmarks.
